This highly restorative hand cream recipe has a few natural ingredients in place of the chemicals in store-bought creams. It even serves to make an original and beautiful gift!

Homemade Hand Repairing Cream: Recipe

You will need to

  • 100 grams of shea butter (buy here)
  • 1 tablespoon organic sunflower oil (buy here)
  • 10 drops of organic lemongrass essential oil (buy here)
  • 4 drops of organic eucalyptus essential oil (buy here)
  • Glass jars with storage lids (buy here)
  • Rod blender (buy here)

Instructions

Put the shea butter and sunflower oil in a pot in a double boiler and heat until completely melted. Stir as it melts.

Pour into a glass bowl large enough for you to use your hand mixer.

Add the essential oils and mix well.

There are many essential oils that work great in skincare too, so feel free to substitute or experiment. Other oils that you can use would be lavender, geranium, incense, and sandalwood.

Put it in the fridge for about 25 minutes so the mixture turns slightly solid.

Next, beat with the whisk for 30 to 40 seconds on medium speed until the mixture is fluffy and creamy. If you notice it go from fluffy to stiff, simply melt it for 10 seconds in the microwave, then lightly beat it for another 10 seconds.

Finally, transfer the cream to a clean jar and close with the lid.

Apply this repairing hand cream as many times as necessary to soften your hands, especially after washing and at night before going to bed. I have a jar both in the kitchen and in the bathroom.

Ingredients Properties of Homemade Hand Repair Cream

Shea butter

The shea butter is one of the best allies of your skin. In addition to being an excellent moisturizer, it is a pure source of fatty acids and vitamins, such as vitamins A, E, and K, that heal and nourish the skin at the same time.

You will feel that it softens your skin immediately and it is not greasy, unlike other moisturizers that are based, for example, coconut oil.

Sunflower oil

Sunflower oil also contains vitamins that nourish, soften, and soothe irritated skin. The vitamin E it contains protects the skin, prevents premature aging and wrinkles.

It is a very emollient vegetable oil that is easily absorbed through the skin.

Eucalyptus oil

Eucalyptus essential oil has antiseptic qualities due to its germicidal quality, which makes it used for the healing of wounds, ulcers, burns, cuts, abrasions, and sores.

Likewise, it soothes dry and irritated skin and stimulates cell growth.

Lemongrass or Lemongrass Oil

Lemongrass essential oil is a great aromatic and therapeutic oil. With a clean and calming scent, it helps relieve stress, anxiety, irritability, and insomnia.

This oil has healing and soothing properties for the skin, while it tightens and tones it, favoring a luminous and uniform skin.

Final Considerations

With this homemade hand repair cream, you will soothe your dry hands, while hydrating and protecting them. You can also apply it to other areas of the body where you have rough skin such as feet, knees, and elbows, which usually tend to dry out.

If you have an allergy to shea butter or latex, you can substitute it for any other vegetable butter, such as mango butter or cocoa butter, which are also excellent for the skin.

Pregnant or nursing women, children, and people with liver or kidney disease or other health conditions should check with their doctor before using any essential oil.

Before applying this hand repair cream for the first time, it is advisable to do a patch test and wait 24 hours.

You have already seen that just by melting the shea butter and a quick shake with an electric mixer you can quickly make your 100% natural homemade hand repair cream. Your hands will thank you!
