Making your own soaps is very interesting since you can control the ingredients it includes in detail. With this you will avoid adding any inappropriate element or that may cause a problem with your skin type.

Homemade Highly Hydrating Shea Butter Soap Recipes

Here I help you prepare a homemade and moisturizing shea soap with some very easy methods:

Methods for Making Homemade Shea Soap

Shea Soap with Clay, Glycerin, and Essential Oils

This method is one of the safest to follow, and it is that you will not need to be handling any type of toxic element.

You need

  • 1 cup of organic soap
  • 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin
  • 1 tablespoon shea butter
  • 1/4 of Ghassoul clay (you can substitute it for pink, green or bentonite clay in case you can't get it)
  • A double pot for melting
  • A little pure alcohol
  • Molde silicone where you do soap
Optional: you can add 10 drops of rosewood essential oil, 10 of frankincense essential oil, and 10 of rose geranium so that it has a better smell

Step-by-step preparation

Start by melting the cup of organic soap, you can cut it into cubes and heat for a few seconds in the microwave, or in a bain-marie. If you do it in the microwave, take it out from time to time and stir.

Place a container in the bain-marie at a slow temperature. Add the soap and shea butter while stirring to mix everything together.

When the different fats have been integrated, it is time to remove them from the game.

Now add the clay and stir thoroughly, as long as you need the mixture to prevent lumps from forming.

In this step, you can add essential oils, although remember that this step is optional.

Before the mixture cools, place it in the mold to form the desired shape.

Add a little pure rubbing alcohol to the soap to make any bubbles disappear.

Let the mixture dry and cool for about 24 hours before removing it from the mold.

And, you have your shea butter base soap ready to use.

Shea Butter, Olive Oil, and Castor Oil Soap

Most shea soap recipes are made with sodium hydroxide ( caustic soda). Thus, a more consistent type of product with better properties can be achieved, although great care must be taken when handling bleach.

Caution: If you are going to follow this method, you must wear long-sleeved clothing, glasses, a mask, and gloves.

Ingredients

  • 64 grams of sodium hydroxide
  • 145 grams of shea butter
  • 120 grams of filtered water
  • 225 grams of extra virgin olive oil
  • 30 grams of castor oil
  • Molde for soap
  • Thermometer

Preparation

First of all, we protect ourselves with long sleeves, gloves, a mask, and glasses. Make sure to follow these steps in a well-ventilated area.

We place the water in a deep pot and add the sodium hydroxide (it will be in the form of crystals). Renew well until they dissolve.

The above process will have heated the water, so wait a while for it to cool.

Place a container in a double boiler and melt the shea butter together with the olive oil and castor oil.

Make sure the temperature of the soda and butter is 38º C and mix everything very carefully in a blender. Press the button with just a few locks, wait for it to thicken a bit, and start over.

Pour into the soap mold and let it sit for a week in a safe place.

Unmold after that time and wait 6 weeks until the soap is cut. If there is still something wet, wait a little longer.

Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, and Olive Oil Soap

Using caustic soda to make soap is a classic.

As you can see in this recipe, shea butter works too.

Necessary materials

  • 80 grams of caustic soda
  • 120 grams of distilled water
  • 200 grams of extra virgin olive oil
  • 150 grams of coconut oil
  • 25 grams of wheat germ oil
  • 80 grams of shea butter
  • Molds for soap
  • Thermometer
  • Transparent film

Preparation

Put all the oils and the shea butter in the same container and heat until they reach 60ºC.

Pour the water into a plastic container, add the soda and stir vigorously. Now the water will be hot, so you have to wait for it to cool down.

Add the melted oils and use a mixer to stir all the ingredients until you get a homogeneous and thick mixture.

Add the mixture in as many molds as you can (the most normal thing is that it gives you 8 shea soaps).

Use plastic wrap to stick it to the soap and thus prevent the entry of air (it could be damaged if you do not cover it).

When it has hardened it is ready to be removed from the mold.

If you want the texture of the oil to be smoother you can add 10 grams of beeswax in the first step.

Shea Butter and Macadamia Oil Soap

Macadamia oil is one of the most hydrating worlds. It helps to smooth, tone, and calm the skin, hydrates it, and has the same effect on the hair. There are even several lines of research that suggest that it could be a good ally against bad cholesterol.

Here is the latest recipe for making shea butter soap. Take extra precautions with gloves, a mask, and goggles, as we are using corrosive products again.

Ingredients for the recipe.

  • 500 grams of shea butter
  • 200 grams of macadamia nut oil
  • 200 grams of extra virgin olive oil
  • 114 grams of sodium hydroxide
  • 10 grams of titanium dioxide for cosmetics
  • 280 milliliters of demineralized water
  • 2 g of peppermint essential oil
  • 2 grams of vitamin E
  • A double pot for melting
  • Thermometer
  • Molde silicone soap

Green dye or your choice (optional)

Process

Put the water and soda into separate containers. Pour the soda over the water until it dissolves. Let the mixture cool.

Add the shea butter to a double pot and let it melt in a double boiler.

In another container, mix the rest of the oils and add the titanium dioxide, avoiding lumps. To this mixture add vitamin E.

Mix the shea butter with a combination of oils and titanium dioxide. You must make sure that the temperature is between 45 - 60º C to achieve a good dissolution.

Add the soda with the water and beat with a very soft mixer.

Fill the mold using the soap and let it dry for about 24 hours.

Once this time has passed, it should be hard, so we cut it into tablets and store it in a dry place.

The saponification process can take up to 6 weeks to complete. Once it has happened, you can use it like conventional soap.

You already know 4 practical recipes to make shea soap. Of course, I urge you to follow all the steps to the letter and to use all the appropriate protection elements to avoid any risk.
