You might be asking, what is sugar scrub? Well, sugar scrubs are a type of exfoliator that helps remove dead skin buildup. They’re supposed to help make your skin soft and smooth. Some people even go as far as saying they help give the skin that “glowing” look.

How To Make Homemade Cucumber Mint Sugar Body Scrub

I’m not an expert, but my google searches say that cucumber is amazing for your skin! It’s an antioxidant that contains vitamin C and vitamin A. Supposedly the nutrients in cucumber can even help prevent wrinkles and sun damage!

How can cucumbers benefit your skin?

1. Reduces swelling and puffiness

Cucumbers have the ability to reduce swelling and puffiness of the skin. This may be especially helpful if you’ve been running low on sleep and find you have dark, puffy circles under your eyes.

2. Aids acne-prone skin

Oily skin and dead skin cells can clog pores and trigger acne breakouts. Cucumbers — which are mildly astringent — may help to cleanse the skin and tighten pores. This may help reduce breakouts.

3. Helps combat premature aging

cucumbers contain both vitamin C and folic acid. Vitamin C has the ability to stimulate new cell growth, while folic acid aids in fighting off environmental toxins that can make your skin look tired or prematurely aged. Combined, these components may help your skin look firmer and healthier.

4. Soothes irritation

The cooling and anti-inflammatory effect of cucumbers may help ease pain, redness, and irritation caused by sunburns, insect bites, and rashes.

How can Mint benefit your skin?

It's the bacteria, build-up of dead skin cells, and excess oil that causes acne. Mint leaves have antibacterial properties and they also contain salicylic acid, both of which can be used for preventing as well as treating the breakouts on the skin!

Mint is an anti-inflammatory so it helps soothe skin irritations and itchy skin. It also contains vitamin A, which controls the secretion of oil in people who have oily and acne-prone skin. It also helps treat acne and it hydrates and moisturizes the skin. Some people believe that when applied to the forehead, mint can help to alleviate headaches!

How can coconut oil benefit your skin?

Coconut oil helps bolster your skin's protective barrier layer, trapping moisture inside and keeping skin supple and hydrated. Reduces inflammation. Coconut oil has anti-inflammatory properties, making it beneficial for irritated, chafed skin. Increases collagen production.

Homemade Fresh DIY Cucumber Mint Sugar Body Scrub Recipe:

This a great homemade body scrub to use after a day spent in the sun. While the scrub is completely edible, we don't recommend actually eating it.

Ingredient For DIY Cucumber Mint Sugar Body Scrub:

  • ¼ cup cucumber, unpeeled (about 4 slices)
  • 4 tablespoons coconut oil, unrefined
  • 1 cup natural cane sugar
  • 4 leaves fresh mint
  • 4 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • 2 drops lemon essential oil

I love that this recipe uses fresh cucumber! I also love that the cucumber makes it turn green – naturally! No need to add any food coloring. You’ll need about 2 to 3 inches of cucumber for this sugar scrub recipe.

Method:

  1. Puree cucumber and mint leave in a food processor until they are tiny specks of green; approximately 2 minutes.
  2. In a small skillet, heat the coconut oil until the coconut has completely melted or Melt it in the microwave for about 15 to 20 seconds.
  3. Add two tablespoons of coconut oil and one cup of sugar. Blend until smooth.
  4. Pour cucumber mint puree into a glass mixing bowl. Add the remaining two tablespoons coconut oil and stir until smooth.
  5. Last, add 2 drops of lemon essential oil and 4 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Stir to combine and pour into an airtight container.

Use of sugar scrub:

Please take extra care not to rub it anywhere near your eyes. You definitely don’t want it accidentally getting in your eyes.

I find it easiest to use it in the shower. I use it on my hands, arms, and legs. It leaves the skin feeling smooth, fresh, and invigorated.

You can use the sugar scrub on your skin up to 3 times a week.
